On her name the project call” Maria Beatrix Mother & Child Health Care” Started on 20th February 2008 by Mrs. Lalchand & Mrs. Mona Paul with a small group of parkari volunteers at Rattanabad, Mirpurkhas Pakistan.

Late Rev. Sister Maria Beatrix worked for many years with mothers and small children in the rural Parkari community of south-eastern Sindh in development work. This project is designed to continue her mission. The project is non-profit, non-sectarian and established by local communities. It works among marginalized rural communities to improve their health by raising awareness of mother and child health issues and stressing the importance of care during childbirth.  It also provides mosquito nets and female goats for poor families.

Parkari & others rural minority groups in which Sister Beatrix worked is scattered throughout lower Sindh in southern Pakistan. The social status of this tribal community is very low, in comparison to that of the scheduled castes.

Very few, barely 3% are literate. Most of the villages lack the basic essentials of clean drinking water and access to health and education services. Women and children are the most disadvantaged. In response to these needs, the Maria Beatrix Mother & Child Health-Care Project is working in the rural areas of lower Sindh as an active community-based health project. It works for the benefit of all members of the neediest rural women and children.

The Project is also committed to assist the neediest, poorest, disadvantaged and marginalized of the minority groups. The overall aim is to reduce human suffering and negative social stigmatization, and to improve the livelihoods for all, irrespective of gender, race, caste, color and creed.

People within these predominantly Poor and needy communities mostly work as agricultural laborers for wealthy landlords in the irrigated districts and are severely deprived of health services.  Those who live in the adjoining rural areas may own their own land, but because of less water & frequent droughts they are often forced to migrate in search of food and water to other areas.
